Book Review: Rick and Bubba’s Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage

Rick and Bubba’s Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage
By Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey
Published by Thomas Nelson

When I received this book I thought it was going to be a funny take on marriage…a guide to having humor in marriage even when the last thing you want to do is laugh.  I thought it was going to give some real life advice that my husband and I could apply to our marriage.  What I found it to be was a bunch of stories, which lacked any substance.  It was more the guys making fun of themselves and telling stories about the hobbies and interests that they partake in, with and without their wives.

There were some funny parts within the book but over all, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.  I’m sure the authors are great and I’ve heard that they have a well-liked and enjoyed radio show and are New York Times Best-Seller’s, but honestly, I’ve never even heard of them or their show until this book arrived in my mailbox.

This book also came with a cd so you could listen to them tell stories, not just read about them.  Which, I guess if you like books on tape, it would be cool but prefer to read my books, not listen to them.  The cd is a nice added bonus though.

Overall, I don’t think I would recommend this book, especially if you’re looking for some relationship advice.
